SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College baseball team swept Merrimack College on Friday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets improve to 14-19 overall and 8-10 in conference play, while the Warriors drop to 11-21 so far this season, and 3-14 in the Northeast-10.
AIC got out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when senior catcher
Anthony Arrichiello (Yonkers, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to right field and plated
Cam MacDonald (Weymouth, Mass.). In the second inning junior
Dennis Duffy hit an RBI single to left field to score senior
Kyle McNiff (Westford, Mass.), while freshman
Dave Clark (West Springfield, Mass.) hit a sacrifice line drive to center field. The Yellow Jackets had a 3-0 lead going into the third inning.
AIC scored three more runs in each of the last three innings to earn the 6-0 shutout over Merrimack College in game-one. Senior first basemen
Dillon Fontaine (Amenia, N.Y.) was 2-for-4 with one run scored and two singles.

John Shivo (Ayer, Mass.) earned the victory on the mound for the Yellow Jackets as he pitched a complete nine inning game allowing only three hits and striking out nine, while sophomore Joe Mantoni (Hopedale, Mass.) took the loss after giving up three runs on three hits in 2.2 innings pitched.
In game two- the Yellow Jackets got out to an early 1-0 lead in the second when Arrichiello was plated by Clark who hit an RBI single up the middle. The Warriors wasted no time going up by one run in the third as sophomore Mark O'Flynn (Ipswich, Mass.) hit an RBI single to left field and junior Tim Curran (South Weymouth, Mass.) drilled the ball to right center field for an RBI triple.
AIC tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the third when shortstop
Chris Amate (Hanover, Mass.) hit an RBI double down the left field line. The Yellow Jackets added another run in the sixth inning when catcher
Dan Fenton (Agawam, Mass.) hit an RBI single to the shortstop. AIC kept Merrimack from tallying anymore runs. The Yellow Jackets closed the scoring in the eighth inning when senior
Sean McClelland (Chicopee, Mass. ) had a sacrifice bunt to plate Fontaine and earn the 4-2 victory.
Junior
John Hanna (Dudley, Mass.) earned the victory for AIC after pitching six innings and only allowing one hit and striking out two, while freshman Conner McMahon (Westfield, Mass.) took the loss after giving up four runs on eight hits and seven strike outs in eight innings pitched.
The Yellow Jackets will next travel to Saint Rose on Tuesday afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. NE-10 contest.
