Assumption Outslugs Baseball Team, 13-8

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Visiting Assumption College pushed across five runs in the top of the fifth to record a 13-5 non-conference win over the American International College baseball team Tuesday afternoon at AIC Park.

The Greyhounds improved to 11-22 for the season, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 11-19.

Assumption jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first and led 7-1 heading into the bottom of the third where AIC plated four runs to pull back within two, 7-5.

The Greyhounds led 8-7 heading into the fifth before they scored five times to put the game away. Senior left fielder Drew Dombrowski (Southampton, Mass.) and senior right fielder Mike Foley (Worcester, Mass.) each delivered a two-RBI doubles in the inning.

Both pitching staffs settled down after that and AIC capped the scoring in the eighth when Clark () singled up the middle to score senior second baseman Paul Maza (Valencia, Venezuela) for the 13-8 final.

Dombrowski and Foley both finished the game 2-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored for Assumption. Sophomore second baseman Shane Keddy (Worcester, Mass.) was also 2-for-5 with two runs scored and one driven in.

Clark finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI for the Yellow Jackets, while senior right fielder Kyle McNiff (Westford, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, one RBI and two runs scored. Senior center fielder Mike Tranghese (Springfield, Mass.) was 2-for-5 with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored.

Freshman Michael Pendergast (Unionville, Conn.) earned the decision after allowing one run on three hits in four innings of relief, while junior Geoff McCowat (Sterling, Va.) took the loss after gaving up seven runs on 10 hits in three innings.

The Yellow Jackets will next travel to the University of New Haven Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
