Baseball Rallies for 3-1 Victory over Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The American International College baseball team pulled away with a 3-1 victory over Pace University on Friday afternoon for a Northeast-10 contest. The Yellow Jackets improve to 7-9 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Setters drop to 7-8-1 so far this season, and 1-1 in the Northeast-10.

AIC got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when senior right fielder Kyle McNiff (Westford, Mass.) reached on a single to right field. Senior first baseman Dillon Fontaine (Amenia, N.Y.) plated NcNiff when he doubled to left field. Senior catcher Michael Rodriguez (East Hampton, N.Y.) hit a homerun to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning for the Setters to tie the game at 1-1.

The game remained tied until the top of the ninth when shortstop Chris Amate (Hanover, Mass.) doubled to center field; he was plated when senior catcher Anthony Arrichiello (Yonkers, N.Y.) tripled down the right field line to make it a 2-1 contest. Arrichiello crossed home plate when Fontaine grounded out for an RBI bunt to the pitcher.

Sophomore pitcher Chris Goonan (Chicopee, Mass.) earned the victory for the AIC with allowing two hits in 2.2 innings with one walk and three strikeouts, senior Sean Stevenson (Holyoke, Mass.) earned the save with two strikeouts in one inning pitched. Senior Chris Camastro (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) took the loss in after allowing three runs on four hits after eight innings.

The Yellow Jackets will next host a conference doubleheader against Saint Anselm on Saturday afternoon starting at noon at AIC Park.
