SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire University plated three runs in each of the first two innings and then put up a five-spot in the fourth on its way to a 19-5 non-conference win over the American International College baseball team Thursday afternoon in the first game of the year played at AIC Park.

The Penmen improved to 9-8 with the win, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 4-6 for the season.

Sophomore Matt Boutler (Wrentham, Mass.) did the most damage for SNHU, going 4-for-6 with a triple, a homerun, six RBIs and four runs scored. Senior Robert Wronski (Arlington, Mass.) went 5-for-5 with three runs scored and two driven in, while freshman Albert Stanton (Sandwich, Mass.) was 2-for-2 with a double, a solo homer and four runs scored.

Senior Sean McClelland (Chicopee, Mass.) was 3-for-6 at the plate for AIC with three runs scored. Senior Anthony Arrichiello (Yonkers, N.Y.) was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while classmate Kyle McNiff (Westford, Mass.) went 1-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.

The Penmen had runners at first and third with two down in the top of the first when Boulter tripled to right center and later scored on graduate Chris O'Neill's (Chelmsford, Mass.) triple to give SNHU a 3-0 lead.

The Yellow Jackets answered in the bottom of the frame with three runs of their own to tie the game. McClelland reached on a fielder's choice and later scored from third on a double steal before McNiff doubled with runners on second and third to plate Arrichiello and senior Chris Amate (Hanover, Mass.).

Freshman Jamie Wollerman (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) then gave the Penmen the lead for good with a two-run bomb in the top of the second. SNHU scored once more in the frame to take a 6-3 lead before taking on five runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

Junior Brad Monroe (Hampton, Conn.) gave up four runs, three earned, on 10 hits with five strikeouts in five innings to earn the decision on the mound for the Penmen. AIC junior Geoff McCowat (Sterling, Va.) took the loss after giving up 10 runs, eight earned, in 3.1 innings.

The Yellow Jackets will look to bounce back with a home non-conference doubleheader against Southern Connecticut State University Saturday starting at noon at AIC Park.
