Women's Basketball Hosts New Haven Thursday

Setting the Scene - The Yellow Jackets host a Northeast-10 doubleheader this evening against the University of New Haven in the second meeting of the season between the squads. AIC swept a doubleheader at New Haven November 17, 2010.

NeXt Up - The Yellow Jackets will next travel to the College of Saint Rose Saturday and Le Moyne College next Tuesday before hosting Southern Connecticut State University Saturday, February 12, for a doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m.

Women's Basketball Notes

About AIC - The Yellow Jackets enter today's contest with an overall record of 14-6, including a 10-5 mark in the Northeast-10 after recording wins over Saint Michael's and Saint Anselm last week. Senior guard Adriana Johnson leads the team in scoring (12.5 ppg), assists (64) and steals (41) and is third on the team in rebounding (5.1 rpg). Junior guard Michelle Lafond is averaging 11.6 points per game, while junior guard Marie Li Sicard is averaging 9.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game with 53 assists and 28 steals. AIC is averaging 57.5 points per game while shooting 38 percent from the field, while its opponents are averaging 53 points per game and shooting 35 percent from the floor.

Last Time Out - Johnson scored a game-high 22 points with four assists, four rebounds and four steals to lead AIC to a 60-54 win at Saint Anselm Saturday. Lafond added 11 points and Sicard added 10. Both Lafond and Sicard had four rebounds and four assists to go with their respective scoring totals.

About NEW HAVEN - The Chargers enter tonight's game with an overall record of 2-17 and are just 1-14 in Northeast-10 play. New Haven's, which has lost 15 straight, last won a game back on November 28 with a 61-50 win at Le Moyne, which was also its only league win. Senior guard Dominique Stellmacher leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 13.1 points and seven boards per contest. Freshman guard Ahn-Dao Tran is second on the team in scoring with 11.5 points per game and leads the team with 74 assists and 36 steals. The Chargers are averaging 56.5 points per game and shooting 36 percent from the floor, while their opponents are averaging 69.1 points per game and shooting 41 percent from the field.

Last Time They Met - AIC outscored New Haven 42-27 in the second half to overcame a 31-17 halftime deficit and record a 59-58 Northeast-10 victory back on November 17. AIC opened the second half with a 17-2 run to take a 33-32 lead 6:22 into the second half and held the Chargers scoreless for the first 5:57 of the frame. Neither team led by four points the rest of the way. Johnson led the Yellow Jackets with 13 points, nine boards and three steals, while Lafond added 13 points with three assists. Stellmacher scored a game-high 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead UNH.

About AIC - The Yellow Jackets enter tonight's game with a record of 15-5 for the season and are 11-4 in the Northeast-10. Junior forward Isiah Wallace leads the team in scoring and is second in rebounding with 17.9 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Senior guard Allen Aragbaye is averaging 15.8 points and 4.9 boards per game, while sophomore guard Ricky Hudson is averaging 10.8 points per game off the bench. Senior forward Denzel Jackson leads the team in rebounding (9.2 rpg) and assists (65) while averaging 5.5 points per game. The Yellow Jackets are averaging 68.9 points per game while shooting 43 percent from the field, while their opponents are averaging 63.9 points per game and shooting 38 percent from the floor.

Wallace Keeps Climbing Scoring List - Junior forward Isiah Wallace is quickly moving up AIC's career scoring list. He is currently 19th with 1,229 career points. He needs 14 points to tie Vince Williams (1981-85) and Darryl Johnson (1971-74) for 17th on the all-time scoring list and needs 16 to catch Orlando Vandros (1988-92) fro 16th.

Last Time Out - After trailing by as many as 23 points midway through the second half AIC pulled back within six with 1:02 to go, but that was close as the Yellow Jackets would get as No. 25 Saint Anselm held on for a 77-65 win in Manchester, N.H. Saturday.

About NEW HAVEN - The Chargers enter tonight's game with an overall record of 4-15, with a 3-12 mark in the Northeast-10, after a 65-61 non-conference win over NYIT Monday night. Freshman guard Justin Exum is averaging 14.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, while senior forward Robert Jamerson is averaging 13.4 points and a team-best 7.3 boards per contest. New Haven is averaging 62.8 points per game while shooting 44 percent from the field, while its opponents are averaging 69.3 points per game and shooting 44 percent from the floor.

Last Time They Met - AIC shot 56 percent (31-55) from the field and 63 percent (10-16) from three on its way to a 78-62 NE-10 win at New Haven back on November 17. Aragbaye scored a game-high 23 points with four assists to lead the Yellow Jackets, while Wallace netted 18 points with five boards and three assists. Jamerson posted a double-double with 12 points and 15 boards to lead the Chargers.
