SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Four players scored in double-figures as the American International College men's basketball team registered a 70-55 Northeast-10 victory over Southern Connecticut State University Saturday afternoon at Butova Gymnasium.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 18-6 overall and 14-5 in the Northeast-10, while the Owls fell to 12-11 overall and 9-10 in conference play. AIC also swept the season series.
Junior guard
Isiah Wallace (Springfield, Mass.) registered a double-double with 18 points and 15 boards for the Yellow Jackets, while sophomore guard
Ricky Hudson (Sewell, N.J.) netted 18 points with six boards off the bench.
Senior guard
Allen Aragbaye (Corona, Calif.) poured in 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while junior guard
Adrian Hynes-Guery (Montreal, Que.) added 13 points with four rebounds.
Sophomore forward Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead SCSU. Freshman guard/forward Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) added 14 points and eight boards off the bench.
The Owls got off to a quick start on back-to-back threes from senior guard Chazz McCarter (New Haven, Conn.) and Hamlet in the first 1:19 of the game, but it was all AIC from there as the Yellow Jackets answered with a 16-0 run to take a lead it would never give up.
AIC led 37-27 at the break and closed the game with an 11-4 run over the final 3:46 for the 70-55 final.
The Yellow Jackets won despite shooting just 30.2 percent (19-63) from the field and 28.6 percent (6-21) from three. Southern Connecticut was held to just 25 percent (20-80) from the floor and 16 percent (4-25) from three. AIC went 26-for-33 at the free throw line, while the Owls were 11-of-17.
The Yellow Jackets will next travel to Assumption College Wednesday, February 16, for a 7:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
