Men's Basketball Pulls Out 76-71 Victory at Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. – The American International College men's basketball team recorded a 76-71 Northeast-10 victory at Assumption College Wednesday night to sweep the season series with the Greyhounds. The Yellow Jackets improved to 19-6 overall and 15-5 in the NE-10, while Assumption fell to 11-15 overall and 8-12 in conference play.

Junior guard Adrian Hynes-Guery (Montreal, Que.) scored 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field with a pair of threes to go with six boards and four assists. Junior guard Isiah Wallace (Springfield, Mass.) also scored 18 points with eight boards and six assists.

Senior guard Allen Aragbaye (Corona, Calif.) netted 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field with three threes and pulled down five rebounds, while senior forward Denzel Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.) filled the box score with nine points, eight boards, three assists and three steals.

Sophomore forward Ronson Quick (Marlton, N.J.) scored 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field with five boards and three blocked shots to lead Assumption. Freshman guard Cory Schmidt (Center Valley, Pa.) tallied 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor with three threes off the bench.

Senior forward/guard Mike Baldarelli (Sutton, Mass.) added 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds, while senior forward/center Tobin Haase (Southold, N.Y.) added 11 points with seven boards.

The Greyhounds opened the game with a 14-6 spurt over the opening 5:28 and led by 11 after Baldarelli drained a three to make it 20-9 eight minutes in. The Yellow Jackets then scored 11 straight and tied the game at 20 on a Hynes-Guery three at the 7:41 mark of the period.

Assumption answered with a 7-0 run to go up 27-20 and led 31-24 following a layup from sophomore guard Bobby Harris (Berlin, N.J.) with 2:19 left in the opening period. The two teams then traded free throws before Wallace pulled up and drained a three just before time expired in the half to make it 33-30 in favor of the Greyhounds at the break.

It was AIC that got off to a fast start in the second with an 11-2 burst to take a 41-35 lead. The lead was still six midway through the second half when Assumption went on a 14-6 run to regain the lead, 59-57 with 5:26 to go.

The Yellow Jackets regained the lead for good a couple minutes later when Aragbaye knocked down a jumper to make it 63-61 3:35 left in the game. AIC went 10-for-10 at the line in the final two minutes to secure the win.

The Yellow Jackets shot 44.4 percent (28-63) from the field and 50 percent (6-12) from three, while the Greyhounds shot 39.1 percent (27-69) from the floor and 33.3 percent (8-24) from beyond the arc. AIC was 14-of-16 at the line in the game, while Assumption was 9-of-11.

The Yellow Jackets will next travel to Adelphi University Saturday, February 19, for a 3:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
