COLCHESTER, Vt. – The American International College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 Northeast-10 match at Saint Michael's College Saturday afternoon. The Purple Knights improved to 4-6-2 for the season and 2-5-1 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 4-6-2 overall and 3-4-1 in conference play.
AIC jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when senior forward
Thomas Denomme (North Smithfield, R.I.) found the back of the net just 5:51 into the match.
The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Yellow Jackets until freshman forward Thomas Barron (Westfield, Mass.) tied the game in the 59th-minute off a free kick. Another free kick in the 70th-minute led to the game-winning tally from freshman midfielder Philip McCormick (Starksboro, Vt.).
Junior keeper Logan Kingman (New Bern, N.C.) needed to make just one save to earn the decision in net for Saint Michael's, while sophomore keeper
Jason Ryan (Peabody, Mass.) had two stops in taking the loss for AIC.
The Yellow Jackets outshot the Purple Knights 7-6 and had a 5-4 advantage on corner kicks.
AIC will next host Southern Connecticut State University Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Ronald J. Abdow Field.
