SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior forward
Thomas Denomme (North Smithfield, R.I.) scored in the 82nd-minute for the American International College men's soccer team as it earned a 1-1 draw with Southern Connecticut State University Tuesday night at Ronald J. Abdow Field.
The Yellow Jackets' record now stands at 4-6-3 overall and 3-4-2 in the Northeast-10, while the Owls' record moved to 5-5-1 overall and 4-3-1 in conference play.
SCSU sophomore forward Doural Scott (New Haven, Conn.) gave the Owls a 1-0 lead off a cross from fellow sophomore forward Ariel Lobo (Medford, Mass.) with 3:09 left in the first half. AIC finally drew even when junior midfielder
Conor Doyle (Douglas, Ilse of Man) sent Denomme in on a breakaway and he found the back of the net to tie the match at one with 8:33 left in regulation
Both teams had chances to take home the victory in overtime, but neither was able to score in the extra periods.
Sophomore keeper
Jason Ryan (Peabody, Mass.) recorded five saves in net for the Yellow Jackets, while senior keeper Andrew Esposito (East Haven, Conn.) had eight stops in net for Southern Connecticut.
AIC outshot the Owls 18-15 in the match, including a 7-5 margin in overtime. Southern Connecticut had the advantage in corner kicks, 8-5.
The Yellow Jackets will next host sixth-ranked Franklin Pierce University Saturday for a 3 p.m. Northeast-10 contest at Ronald J. Abdow Field
