SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College field hockey team recorded a 3-1 Northeast-10 victory over visiting Stonehill College Tuesday afternoon at Ronald J. Abdow Field, marking the program's first-ever win over the Skyhawks.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 8-3 for the season and 3-0 in the Northeast-10, while Stonehill's record fell to 5-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Junior midfielder
Lisa Duckles (Netycong, N.J.) opened the scoring in the 20th-minute with her fourth goal of the season to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead, which was extended to 2-0 just 3:59 later on freshman forward
Jenna Masionis' (Ashland, Mass.) fifth goal of the year.
Freshman forward Jennifer Foley (Holden, Mass.) got the Skyhawks on the board with 5:23 remaining in the first half to cut AIC's lead in half at the break, 2-1. Massionis then tallied her second goal of the game, sixth of the season, in the 59th-minute for the 3-1 final
Senior goalkeeper
Kim Steiner (Little Falls, N.Y.) recorded eight saves to earn the win in goal for the Yellow Jackets, while freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Genovese (Street, Md.) registered 10 saves in taking the loss.
AIC outshot Stonehill 20-15 in the game, including a 12-7 margin in the first half, and held an 11-2 advantage in penalty corners.
The Yellow Jackets will open a three-game road trip when they travel to 10th-ranked Bentley University Saturday for a 1 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
