LOWELL, Mass. – The 10th-ranked American International College field hockey team dropped a 4-0 Northeast-10 match at fifth-ranked UMass Lowell Saturday afternoon. The River Hawks improved to 15-3 overall and 9-1 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 11-7 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
Senior back Kalya Littig (Carver, Mass.) scored the first of her two goals in the 18th-minute to put UMass Lowell ahead for good. She later capped off the scoring in the 60th-minute. junior forward Emily Painten (Walpole, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Janelle DeCamillis (Littleton, Mass.) scored one goal each.
Sophomore goalkeeper Melanie Hopkins (Harwich, Mass.) needed to make just three saves to earn the win in the cage for the River Hawks, while senior goalkeeper
Kim Steiner (Little Falls, N.Y.) had 14 saves in taking the loss for AIC.
The River Hawks outshot the Yellow Jackets 32-10 in the match and had a 13-5 advantage in penalty corners.
AIC will be seeded fifth in the upcoming Northeast-10 championship tournament and will travel to fourth-seeded Bentley University Wednesday at time to be announced.
