Field Hockey Tops Saint Anselm, 2-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman forward Jenna Masionis (Ashland, Mass.) scored in the 62nd-minute to give the American International College field hockey team a 2-1 Nortrheast-10 victory at Saint Anselm College Thursday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets improved to 9-5 for the season and 4-2 in the Northeast-10, while the Hawks record fell to 4-9 overall and 2-5 in conference play.

Senior forward Jessica Hall (Higganum, Conn.) gave AIC a 1-0 lead 9:16 into the match when she banged home a rebound for her fifth goal of the season. The score remained 1-0 until the 60th-minute when sophomore forward Elizabeth Sears (Danvers, Mass.) fired a shot into the top-right corner to tie the game at one.

Masionis answered for the Yellow Jackets just 1:54 after Sears tied the contest when she put home her own rebound for her team-leading eighth goal of the season with 8:29 left in the match.

Senior goalkeeper Kim Steiner (Little Falls, N.Y.) recorded six saves in goal to earn the decision for AIC, while junior goalkeeper Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass.) had three stops in taking the loss for Saint Anselm.

Shots were even in the game at 11 a side. The Yellow Jackets had a 9-7 advantage in penalty corners.

AIC will next host No. 5 Merrimack College Saturday for a 12 p.m. Northeast-10 contest at Ronald J. Abdow Field.
