Box Score

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Merrimack College snapped the American International College men's basketball team's seven-game winning streak with an 84-68 Northeast-10 victory Wednesday night. Junior forward Isiah Wallace (Springfield, Mass.) scored a game-high 26 points with seven boards the three steals for the Yellow Jackets.

The Warriors improved to 8-3 for the season and 4-3 in the Northeast-10, while AIC fell to 10-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play. Both teams were receiving votes in the latest NABC Coaches' Poll.

Merrimack featured a balanced attack in the win with all five starters scoring in double figures. That group was led by junior guard Wayne Mack (Paterson, N.J.), who scored 18 points with eight boards, five assists and two steals.

Junior guard Roland Davis (Deer Park, N.Y.) added 17 points and dished out six assists, while junior forward Aaron Strothers (Wareham, Mass.) chipped in with 15 points.

Senior guard Allen Aragbaye (Corona, Calif.) also had a big game for the Yellow Jackets, scoring 23 points with six rebounds and four steals. Senior forward Anthony Thomas (Baltimore, Md.) was AIC's next-highest scorer with seven points. He also pulled down eight rebounds.

The two teams traded baskets through the opening nine minutes and it was a one-point game, 16-15, in favor of the Warriors after AIC freshman guard Janek Schmidkunz (Berlin, Germany) drained the three at the 10:59 mark of the frame. Merrimack then went on an 8-0 run over the next four minutes and never looked back.

It was back to a nine-point game after Wallace canned a jumper to make it 77-68 with 3:20 left in the game, but AIC was held scoreless the rest of the way and the Warriors pulled away at the free throw line in the closing minutes for the 84-68 final.

Merrimack shot 43.8 percent (32-73) from the field, 42.1 percent from three (8-19) and 80 percent (12-15) from the free throw line, while the Yellow Jackets shot 41.2 percent (28-68) from the floor, 22.7 percent (5-22) from three and 50 percent (7-14) from the line.

AIC will look to get back in the win column Saturday when it hosts Southern New Hampshire University in a 3:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest at Butova Gymnasium.
