No. 22 Bentley Outlasts AIC in Double-Overtime Thriller, 87-81

Box Score

WALTHAM, Mass. – No. 22 Bentley University closed the game with a 6-0 run to record an 87-81 double-overtime win over the American International College men's basketball team Tuesday night in a Northeast-10 contest.

The Falcons improved to 12-2 overall and won their 10th Northeast-10 game in as many ties, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 11-4 overall and 7-3 in conference play.

Senior forward Brian Tracey (Bow Mar, Colo.) scored a game-high 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field and a 6-for-6 performance from the free throw line to lead Bentley. He also had six rebounds in the game.

Senior guard Tom Dowling (Rockville, Centre, N.Y.) scored 15 points with three boards for the Falcons, while sophomore guard Greg Jacques (Brockton, Mass.) added 12 points with five rebounds and five assists.

Senior guard Allen Aragbaye (Corona, Calif.) and junior forward Isiah Wallace (Springfield, Mass.) scored 20 points each for AIC. Aragbaye also pulled down seven rebounds with four steals and three assists, while Wallace grabbed six boards.

Sophomore guard Ricky Hudson (Sewell, N.J.) added 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting off the bench for the Yellow Jackets. Senior forward Denzel Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting and grabbed nine boards.

Bentley led for most of regulation and was up by as many as nine, 42-33, following a layup from sophomore forward Dan O'Keefe (Lexington, Mass.) 4:43 into the second half.

The Falcons led by four after a pair of free throws from senior forward Joe Frerneau (Manchester, N.H.) with 1:09 to go in the second half. Wallace then knocked down a jumper on the ensuing possession and Hudson drained a pair of free throws with 22 seconds left in the period to tie the game at 70 and send it into overtime.

Wallace nailed back-to-back jumpers to give AIC a 79-77 lead with 21 seconds left in the first overtime, but Frerneau was fouled and made both free thows to tie the game at 79. Aragbaye had a look at a three just before time expired but couldn't get the potential game-winner to fall.

Jacques' bucket opened the scoring in the second OT and he was answered by an Aragbaye layup to knot the score at 81 with 2:12 to go in the game, but that was AIC's last made basket of the way.

Tracey drained the game-winning three with 1:14 to go and then sealed the game by hitting two free throws with 17 seconds left for the 87-81 final.

Bentley shot 43.8 percent (28-64) from the field, 38.1 percent (8-21) from three and 82.1 percent (23-28) from the line, while the Yellow Jackets shot 39.2 percent (31-79) from the floor, 34.8 percent (8-23) from three and 64.7 percent (11-17) from the line.

AIC will next host UMass Lowell Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in a Northeast-10 contest at Butova Gymnasium.
