Men's Soccer Tops New Haven 2-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior forward/midfielder Thomas Denomme (North Smithfield, R.I.) scored each of the Yellow Jackets goals to lead the American International College men's soccer team (4-4-1, 2-2-1 NE-10) to a 2-1 win over the University of New Haven (3-5-1, 1-3-1 NE-10).

Denomme started the scoring when he found the back of the net off a cross from senior forward/midfielder Sean Stevenson (Holyoke, Mass.) nine minutes into the match. The score remained 1-0 until the 42nd-minute when Denomme buried an unassisted goal for his second of the game.

The Chargers only goal came when senior midfielder Nick Dionne (Meriden, Conn.) found the back of the net in the 65th-minute to make it 2-1 in favor of the Yellow Jackets.

Junior goalkeeper James Taber (Liverpool, N.Y.) made four saves in earning the victory for AIC, while junior goalkeeper Jonathan Creem (Naugatuck, Conn.) stopped nine in the loss for New Haven.

The Yellow Jackets outshot the Chargers 17-11 and had the advantage in penalty corners 7-4.

AIC will host Merrimack College on Saturday afternoon for a 2 p.m. game.
