Congreve Nets Game Winner in 2OT, Men's Soccer beats C.W. Post 3-2

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College men's soccer team won in double overtime on Wednesday night against C.W. Post in a non conference contest. Sophomore back/midfielder Callum Congreve (Sheffield, England) found the back of the net in the 103rd-minute to give the Yellow Jackets the 3-2 win.

AIC got on the board first when senior forward Sean Stevenson (Holyoke, Mass.) found the back of the net 13 minutes into the first half off a pass from Congreve and again at 58 minutes to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead.

The Pioneers got within one when freshman back/forward Joakim Ohlson (Lund, Sweden) scored 78 minutes in to make it 2-1. C.W. Post was not done, senior forward Rumen Kerekov (Sofia, Belgaria) tied up the game with just six minutes left in regulation to send the game into overtime.

Despite both teams having chances to score neither was able to during the first overtime period. AIC was able to get on the board with 7:41 left on the clock in the second overtime frame when Congreve sent the ball into the back of the goal for the game-winner.

Junior goalkeeper James Taber (Liverpool, N.Y.) made 14 saves in net to earn the victory for the Yellow Jackets, while graduate keeper Ed Shone (Liverpool, England) stopped seven in the loss.

C.W. Post outshot AIC 25-19 and also held an 8-4 advantage in corners.

Next up the Yellow Jackets will travel to UMass Lowell for a conference game on Saturday at 3 p.m.
