New Haven, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University scored five times in the bottom of the fourth on its way to an 11-3 Northeast-10 victory over the American International College baseball team Friday afternoon. Senior designated hitter/catcher Brenden Blaschke (Southington, Conn.) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Yellow Jackets.

The Owls (16-5-1, 9-1 NE-10) got on the board in the bottom of the first when junior left fielder Kyle Rosadino (Berwyn, Pa.) scored as junior catcher Nick DeProspo (Worcester, Mass.) reached on a fielder's choice, but AIC (5-13/2-6 NE-10) quickly tied the game in the top of the third as sophomore second baseman Paul Maza (Valencia, Venezuela) scored on junior catcher Anthony Arrichiello's (Yonkers, N.Y.) single to left.

SCSU regained the lead for good in the bottom of the second when sophomore third baseman A.J. Rouleau (Westborough, Mass.) singled through the left side to score sophomore shortstop Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) from second. The Owls blew the game open with a five-run fourth and then added three runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

The Yellow Jackets got back on the board in the top of the eight with the help of three SCSU errors that loaded the bases for Blaschke, who singled to left with two outs to drive in junior third baseman Dan Mooney (Bennington, Vt.) and sophomore first baseman Julian Concepcion (Woodstock, Valley, Conn.). AIC was unable to sustain the rally as junior right fielder Dillon Fontaine (Amenia, N.Y.) was thrown out at second on the play.

Sophomore started Chris Zbin (Colchester, Conn.) earned the win after scattering five hits and three walks over six innings. He also fanned 10 in the game. Senior reliever Ed Bethke (Branford, Conn.) earned the save after giving up just two hits in three innings. Sophomore pitcher John Hanna (Dudley, Mass.) took the loss after giving up seven runs, six earned, on nine hits with five Ks in three and two-third innings.

The Yellow Jackets will next host a Northeast-10 doubleheader against Stonehill College Saturday at AIC Park at noon.
