Post Pulls Away Early in 18-1 Baseball Win at AIC

Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The American International College baseball team dropped an 18-1 non-conference decision to visiting Post University Wednesday afternoon at AIC Park. The Eagles improved to 14-17 with the win, while the loss dropped the Yellow Jackets to 6-21.

Post jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second on an RBI-double down the left field line for senior catcher Jose Reyes (Yonkers, N.Y.) and a two-RBI single up the middle from freshman shortstop Todd Blair (Ajax, Ont.). The Eagles then exploded for six runs in the third and tacked on four runs in the sixth and eighth innings to put the game out of reach.

AIC broke-up Post's bid for a shutout in the bottom of the eighth when junior shortstop Sean McClelland (Chicopee, Mass.) scored on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded and one out. That was all the offense the Yellow Jackets could manage as six Eagle pitchers combined to throw a six-hitter.

Junior pitcher Mike Perry (Manchester, Conn.) earned the decision after tossing three scoreless innings of relief, while freshman pitcher Matt Lee (Stratford, Conn.) took the loss after giving up eight runs in two and one-third innings.

AIC will look to bounce back Saturday when it hosts a Northeast-10 doubleheader against Bentley University at AIC Park. Game-one is scheduled to get underway at noon.
