SNHU Sweeps AIC in Sunday Double-Header

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire completed the sweep over the American international College men's baseball team after putting up three runs in the 10th inning of game two for the 7-4 victory. The Yellow Jackets dropped the first game 4-3. With the losses AIC falls to 6-20-0 overall and to 3-13-0 in the Northeast-10, while the Penmen improve to 6-6-0 in the conference and to 13-16-0 on the year.

In game one, senior outfielder Dan Bassani (Naples, Fla.) led the Yellow Jackets offense going 2-4 with an RBI, while junior outfielder Mike Tranghese (Springfield, Mass.) went 1-3 with one RBI and a run scored. Junior outfielder Dillion Fontaine (Amenia, N.Y.) and sophomore shortstop Sean McClelland (Chicopee, Mass.) both went 2-4 with a run scored.

Senior outfielder Jeff Giannino (Beverly, Mass.) led Southern New Hampshire going 1-3 at the dish with two RBI and a run scored. Classmate, second-baseman Eric Pelletier (Beverly, Mass.) and freshman outfielder Brendan O'Brien (E. Bridgewater, Mass.) each went 2-4 with a run scored.

Sophomore starting pitcher John Hanna (Dudley, Mass.) went 7.1 innings for AIC, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts in the loss. Classmate, reliever Geoff McCowat (Sterling, Mass.) pitched well, as he didn't allow a run in his 1.2 innings with three K's.

Sophomore starter Brad Monroe (Hampton, N.H.) went seven innings allowing three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts in the win for the Penmen. Classmate Garrett Jewell (Alexandria, N.H.) recorded the save after two scoreless innings.

In game two, Tranghese led the way for the Yellow Jackets going 1-4 with two RBI. Junior catcher Anthony Arrchiello (Yonkers, N.Y.) went 2-5 with a run scored, while classmate, first-baseman Dan Mooney (Bennington, Vt.) went 1-3 with two runs scored. Redshirt freshman Chris Amate (Hanover, Mass.) went 1-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Freshman third-baseman Brandon Dutch (Monrow, Conn.) led SNHU in game two, going 2-4 with two runs and an RBI, while junior shortstop Tim Rines (Merrimack, N.H.) went 1-3 with two RBI.

Junior starter Zach Bunszell (Medford, Mass.) pitched well only allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched. Classmate Nick Devine (Springfield, Mass.) took the loss after allow three runs, two earned, with two K's in one inning.

Freshman starting pitcher Derrick Sylvester (Franklin, N.H.) also went 5.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits and four walks with five strikeouts. Classmate, reliever Jon Massad (Shrewsbury, Mass.) claimed the win with three scoreless innings pitched.

Next up, the Yellow Jackets host Post on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
