Yellow Jackets Swept at Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, N.H. – The American International College baseball team was swept on Saturday afternoon by conference foe Franklin Pierce, losing the first game 20-3 and the second 11-5. With the losses, the Yellow Jackets fall to 3-10-0 in the Northeast-10 and to 6-17-0 on the season, while the Ravens improve to 9-4-0 in the conference and to 21-10-0 overall.

In game one, senior outfielder Dan Bassani (Naples, Fla.) led AIC going 2-4 with one RBI and one run scored, while junior shortstop Sean McClelland (Chicopee, Mass.) also went 2-4 with one RBI. Junior outfielder Mike Tranghese (Springfield, Mass.) went 1-3 with an RBI, while sophomore infielder Pete Kelly (Enfield, Conn.) went 1-1 with a run scored.

Senior outfield Phil Hendricks (Pittsfield, Maine) led the way for Franklin Pierce with five RBI's and three runs scored on three hits, while freshman shortstop Dan Kemp (Sturbridge, Mass.) was right behind him going 3-3 with two RBI's and a run scored. Junior leftfielder Mike Munoz (Bronx, N.Y.) also went 3-3 in the game with three runs and an RBI.

Junior pitcher Sean Stevenson (Holyoke, Mass.) went 3.2 innings allowing 10 runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in the loss, before giving way to freshman Chris Goonan (Chicopee, Mass.), who pitched the remaining 4.1 innings.

Junior Brian Maloney (Brockton, Mass.) took the victory for the Ravens after pitch six strong innings allowing two earned on five hits with 10 K's.

In game two, Tranghese led the Yellow Jackets offence going 3-3 with two runs and an RBI, while Bassani went 1-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Freshman second-baseman Chris Amate (Hanover, Mass.) also went 1-3 with a run scored for AIC.

Freshman Mike La Croix (Grafton, Mass.) went 3-4 with seven RBI and three runs scored to lead Franklin Pierce to the sweep. Junior outfielder Derek Ingui (Sterling, Mass.) went 3-5 at the dish with two runs and an RBI in the win.

Sophomore pitcher Julian Concepcion (Woodstock Valley, Conn.) lasted three-innings on the bump allowing nine runs, seven earned, on four hits in the loss for AIC. Junior John Shivo (Ayer, Mass.) replaced him in the fourth inning and went four-inning strong allowing just two-runs on four hits with two strikeouts.

Freshman Joe Flynn (Plymouth, Mass.) claimed the victory for the Ravens with six-innings of work, allowing three runs on six hits with seven strikeouts.

Next up, the Yellow Jackets host conference rival Southern New Hampshire tomorrow. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12 p.m.
