Late Inning Magic Earns Baseball Split at Bloomfield

Newark, N.J. - The American International College baseball team pulled out a 5-4 in the 10th innings of game-two to split a non-conference doubleheader at Bloomfield College Sunday afternoon. The Deacons tallied a 7-4 win over the Yellow Jackets in game-one. AIC's record moves to 3-9 for the season, while Bloomfield's record now stands at 4-12. Junior #Paul Maza# (Valencia, Venezuela) led the Yellow Jackets going a combined 4-9 with two runs scored and two RBI's.

In the first game, Bloomfield jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first inning. Sophomore #Julian Concepcion# (Woodstock Valley, Conn.) tied the score for AIC with a two run home-run in the second inning. Concepcion went 1-3 with two RBI's and a run scored in the game. The score would remain tied until the Deacons put up two runs in the seventh and eighth innings for the 7-4 victory.

Freshman #Matt Lee# (Stratford, Conn.) tossed 6.1 innings on five hits and four earned runs with three strikeouts for the Yellow Jackets. Sophomore #Pete Kelley# (Enfield, Conn.) took the loss after giving up the game-winner in the seventh. Senior Jon Walsh (Saddle Brook, N.J.) went six-innings in the win for Bloomfield, surrendering three earned runs on four hits with seven K's.

In game two, AIC was first on the board, when senior #Dan Bassani# (Naples, Fla.) singled to plate freshman #Chris Amate# (Hanover, Mass.). Bassani went 2-6 on the afternoon with two RBI's and a run scored. Sophomore #Greg Caruso# (Stonypoint, N.Y.) also went 2-3 in the game with two runs scored.

The game went back and forth until the Deacons tied the score at 4-4 in the seventh inning to push the game to extras. The Yellow Jackets wasted no-time scoring as Maza singled to score Caruso for the game-winning run in the 10th. Maza went 3-5 with two RBI's an one run scored in the game.

Freshman #Chris Goonan# (Chicopee, Mass.) pitched three-innings of relief to capture the win for AIC, allowing only one run on two hits. Sophomore Rafael Cruz (Jersey City, N.J.) earned the loss after two-innings pitch and giving up one run on two hits.

The Yellow Jackets will next host Pace University Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in a Northeast-10 contest.
