Baseball Blanks Mercy 13-0 to Close Spring Break Trip

Fort Pierce, Fla. - The American International College shutout Mercy College 13-0 at the Fort Pierce Complex Saturday, in what was a late addition to the schedule, to close out its spring break trip. The Yellow Jackets improved to 2-5 with the win, while the Mavericks dropped to 3-4.

Junior second baseman #Paul Maza# (Valencia, Venezuela) put AIC ahead for good with a solo homerun in the top of the first before the Yellow Jackets pushed 10 runs across in the fifth on six hits, six walks and a hit batter. AIC tacked on two more runs in the seventh for the 13-0 final

Maza finished 5-for-6 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored, while junior catcher #Anthony Arrichiello# (Yonkers, N.Y.) went 3-for-3 two runs scored and one driven in. Sophomore first baseman #Julian Concepcion# (Woodstock Valley, Conn.) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Five AIC pitchers combined to allow just six hits over nine innings with nine Ks and just two walks. Sophomore #John Hanna# (Dudley, Mass.) got the win after scattering four hits over five innings with five strikeouts.

The Yellow Jackets will next open the Northeast-10 portion of their schedule Tuesday when they travel to Assumption College for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
