SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Le Moyne College outscored the American International College men's basketball team 40-25 in the second half on its way to a 74-65 Northeast-10 win at Butova Gymnasium Tuesday night. The Dolphins improved to 15-8 (11-7 NE-10), while the Yellow Jackets fell to 10-13 (8-10 NE-10).
AIC was on fire early and led by as many as 11 in the first half, 37-26 with 3:59 to go, before taking a 40-34 advantage into the locker room. The Yellow Jackets' lead was nine, 48-39, 4:31 in to the second half before the Dolphins went on a 21-4 to take control of the game.
AIC kept it close and was down just six after a layup from senior forward #
Aikeem Vanderhorst# (Bay Shore, N.Y.) make it 71-65 with 1:28 to go, but was held scoreless the rest of the way.
Senior guard #
Mike Troll# (New York, N.Y.) scored 15 points, draining five threes, with six assists to lead the Yellow Jackets. Vanderhorst finished with 14 points and five boards, and in doing so moved into 15th on AIC's career scoring list with 1,243 career points.
Freshman guard #
Ricky Hudson# (Sewell, N.J.) netted 13 points with four rebounds and four assists. Sophomore forward #
Isiah Wallace# (Springfield, Mass.) filled the box score with 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals before fouling out with 2:49 left in the game.
Senior forward Laurence Ekperigin (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) registered a double-double with game-highs of 23 points and 15 boards to lead Le Moyne. He also had five assists. Senior forward Kevin Hassett (Phoenix, Ariz.) netted 14 points with seven boards and three assist.
Junior forward Kevin Roth (Lake View, N.Y.) added 13 points and four rebounds, while graduate guard Damani Corbin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in with 12 points and seven assists.
The Dolphins shot 57.1 percent (28-49) from the field, 50 percent (7-14) from three and 64.7 percent (11-17) from the line. AIC shot 44.3 percent (27-61) from the field, 28 percent (7-25) from three and 80 percent (4-5) from the line.
The Yellow Jackets will next travel to Southern Connecticut State University Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
