SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Senior forward #Aikeem Vanderhorst# (Bay Shore, N.Y.) posted a double-double with game-highs of 20 points and 10 boards to lead the American International College men's basketball team to a 63-57 victory over Adelphi University Saturday afternoon at Butova Gymnasium.

The Yellow Jackets improved to 13-13 overall and 11-10 in the Northeast-10, while the Panthers fell to 18-10 overall and 11-10 in conference play.

Vanderhorst now ranks 14th in AIC's career-scoring list with 1,299 career points, surpassing Derek Owen's (1982-86) total of 1,298 career points. He is 33 points away from tying Steve Valdez, who scored 1,332 points from 1988-92. Vanderhorst 730 career rebounds are 14 shy of tying Rob Olivacce (1992-96) for 10th on the career rebounding list.

AIC led for all but the opening two minutes in the first half and took a 35-24 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Yellow Jackets' shooting went cold in the send half, allowing Adelphi to open the frame with an 18-6 run that gave it a 42-41 lead after junior guard Richard Byrd (Central Islip, N.Y.) converted a three-point play with 9:56 left on the clock.

AIC regained the lead two minutes later on a jumper from sophomore forward #Isiah Wallace# (Springfield, Mass.), who scored seven of his 11 points in the final 8:34 of the contest. The Panthers kept it close down the stretch and were down just three after a three from sophomore guard Rob Johnson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) made it 60-57 with 26 seconds to go, but that was as close as they'd get the rest of the way as the Yellow Jackets made three of their four free throw attempts in the closing seconds.

Junior forward #Allen Aragbaye# (Corona, Calif.) scored 10 points off the bench for AIC, while senior guard #Mike Troll# (New York, N.Y.) added nine points with three boards and three assists. Freshman guard #Ricky Hudson# (Sewell, N.J.) contributed eight points with five boards and three steals.

Byrd poured in a game-high 24 points with eight boards to lead Adelphi, while Johnson finished with 10 points and five boards. Junior guard David Akinyooye (Elmont, N.Y.) added eight points and 10 boards off the bench.

AIC will close out the regular season Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest at Pace University.
