Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The American International College men's basketball team held off a late run by Assumption College to record a 74-72 Northeast-10 victory Wednesday night at Butova Gymnasium. Senior forward #Isiah Wallace# (Springfield, Mass.) led all scorers with 24 points while grabbing nine boards with three assists and three steals.

The Yellow Jackets improved to 12-13 overall and evened their record at 10-10 in conference play, while the Greyhounds fell to 11-14 overall and 8-12 in the NE-10.

Senior forward #Aikeem Vanderhorst# (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scored 15 points for AIC, going 7-for-12 from the field, while freshman guard #Ricky Hudson# (Sewell, N.J.) added 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field to go with six assists and three steals.

Junior guard #Allen Aragbaye# (Corona, Calif.) added 11 points and grabbed six boards in 18 minutes off the bench. It was his first significant action since sustaining an injury back on January 2 in the Yellow Jackets' loss to Post University.

Sophomore guard/forward Tim Beinert (Floral Park, N.Y.) came off the bench to register a double-double for Assumption, scoring 19 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Junior guard/forward Mike Baldarelli (Sutton, Mass.) scored 15 points and grabbed eight boards. Freshman forward Ronson Quick (Marlton, N.J.) also netted 15 points.

The Greyhounds held a 33-28 lead at the half and were up seven, 43-36, after a Baldarelli layup 3:05 into the second half, before AIC went on an 11-6 run to tie the game at 47 with 13:26 to go in the game. The lead changed hands several time over before the Yellow Jackets used a 7-0 run that was capped by a layup from Hudson to take a 63-58 lead.

Assumption answered immediately with an 8-0 burst of its own to regain the lead at 66-63 with 3:13 left on the clock, but Wallace took the game over from their as he outscored the Greyhounds 8-1 over the next 2:18 to give the Yellow Jackets the lead for good.

Four of those points came after freshman guard Ryan Rozsnaki (Montreal, Que.) was called for an intentional foul on Wallace with 2:35 left in the game. His two free throws tied the game at 66 and he converted a layup on the ensuing inbounding play from the baseline to put the Yellow Jackets up by two.

The two teams traded free throws in the closing minute and Assumption was unable to get off desperation three before time expired.

AIC will close out the home portion of its regular season schedule Saturday when it hosts Adelphi University in a Northeast-10 contest. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. at Butova Gymnasium.
