No. 10 Field Hockey Rallies for 2-1 Overtime Win at Adelphi

Box Score

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Junior forward Amanda McLean (Branford, Conn.) scored both Yellow Jacket goals as the 10th-ranked American International College field hockey team rallied for a 2-1 overtime victory at Adelphi University Tuesday afternoon in a Northeast-10 contest.

The Yellow Jackets clinched the third-seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Championship Tournament as they improved 12-6 overall and 7-2 in the Northeast-10, while the Panthers fell to 11-8 overall and 6-4 in conference play. AIC's 12 overall wins and seven conference wins so far this season are both school records.

The Yellow Jackets trailed 1-0 in the 22nd-minute after sophomore forward Cassie Cabral (Sayville, N.Y.) scored off a pass from junior forward Jeanette Heimerle (Smithtown, N.Y.) and the score remained that way until McLean got AIC on the board in the 52nd-minute with the first of her two goals.

Regulation was not enough to decide this one and the game went into overtime. The Panthers had three shots on junior goalie Kim Steiner (Little Falls, N.Y.) in the first minute of the extra period and she was up to the task, turning away all three to keep the Yellow Jackets in the game. McLean then scored her school-record 15th goal of the season 4:24 into the extra frame to give the Yellow Jackets the victory.

Junior goalie Steiner tallied eight saves to earn her school-record 11th win of the season in the cage, while junior goalie Lucia Vigliotti (Westbury, N.Y.) had nine saves in taking the loss.

AIC outshot Adelphi 16-12 in the game and had a 14-11 advantage in penalty corners.

The Yellow Jackets will close out the 2010 regular season Saturday with a 1 p.m. Northeast-10 contest at Saint Michael's College.
