McLean Ties Scoring Record, Nets Game Winner Against SCSU

Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior forward Amanda McLean (Branford, Conn.) scored in the 27th-minute to give the American International College field hockey team a 2-1 win over Southern Connecticut State University at Ronald J. Abdow Field. The goal was McLean's eighth of the season, which ties the school record for the most goals in a single season.

Freshman forward Sarah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) scored six minutes into the game to give the Owls an early 1-0 lead. That lead did not last long as sophomore forward/midfielder Mackenzie Kewley (Rutland, Mass.) scored her fifth goal of the season 18 minutes into the game off a pass from junior midfielder Linsey Fernandes (Ajax, Ont.).

McLean then scored 8 minutes later to give AIC the lead for good.

Junior goalie Kim Steiner (Little Falls, N.Y.) needed to make just three saves in earning the victory for the Yellow Jackets, while senior goalie Lauren Zarrella (Morris, Conn.) stopped 11 in taking the loss.

AIC outshot SCSU 18-7 and held the advantage in penalty corners 14-6.

Next up the Yellow Jackets will host Merrimack College on Saturday afternoon for a 12 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
