Field Hockey Stings Saint Anselm 9-1 on Senior Day

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – AIC scored five goals in the first half as it cruised to a 9-1 Northeast-10 victory over the Saint Anselm College on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets scored the most goals in a game in program history with six different goal scorers. Senior goalie Nicole Spence (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) made three stops to earn the victory on Senior Day.

AIC improved to 10-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play, while the Hawks fell to 2-11 overall and 2-5 in league play. With the win the Yellow Jackets recorded their first ever 10 win season. Junior forward Amanda McLean (Branford, Conn.) tied the record of three goals in a single game.

Junior back Meghan Healy (Greenfield, Mass.) opened the scoring 5:49 into the game, while sophomore forward/midfielder Lisa Duckles (Netcong, N.J.) scored what proved to be the difference maker 2:07 later to give AIC and early 2-0 lead.

Saint Anselm got on the board 11 minutes into the game to make the score 2-1 when senior midfielder Sara Griffin (Derry, N.H.) scored for the Hawks, but it was all the Yellow Jackets from there with seven unanswered goals to make the final score 9-1.

McLean scored three goals in a span of 7:11, while sophomore forward Kristen Angeletti (Wallingford, Conn.) scored twice for AIC in 1:27. Sophomore back Jenn Patten (Plaistow, N.H.) and freshman back Hannah Farrelly each tallied one goal for the Yellow Jackets. Senior Rhonwen Peters (Aquashicola, Pa.) had two assists for the day, while classmates Lauren Silva (New City, N.Y.) and Jaimie Plamondon (Agawam, Mass.) each had one assist.

Sophomore goalie Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass.) stopped nine shots in the loss for the Hawks. AIC outshot Saint Anselm 29-8 and held the advantage in penalty corners 11-8.

Next up the Yellow Jackets will travel to Bentley University on November 6 for a 1 p.m. Northeast- 10 contest.
