Men's Soccer Falls to Saint Anselm 2-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at Saint Anselm College on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks improved to 5-11-1 overall and 4-7-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 6-9-1 overall and 4-7-1 in conference play.

AIC jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when senior forward Sean Stevenson (Holyoke, Mass.) scored off a feed from Barnaba Madol (Manchester, N.H.) just 23 minutes into the game and took that advantage into the half.

Junior midfielder Justin Colella (Wilmington, Mass.) tied the game 1-1 for Saint Anselm 60 minutes into the game off a cross from the left side. Junior defenseman Andrew Parker (East Haddam, Conn.) and freshman midfielder Brian Ayers (Potomac, Md.) had the assists on Colella's goal.

Sophomore midfielder Maximilian Glebocki (Wilbraham, Mass.) took the 2-1 lead and what proved to be the game-winning goal 67 minutes into the game with an assist from Joseph Ponticelli (Braintree, Mass.

Freshman goalie Mark Kotsopoulos (Shrewsbury, Mass.) made six saves in earning the victory for the Hawks, while junior goalkeeper James Taber (Liverpool, N.Y.) stopped three in the loss.

The Yellow Jackets outshot Saint Anselm 13-11, while the Hawks held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks

AIC will host Queen's College (N.Y.) on Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. non-conference contest.
