Two Second Half Goals Propel Field Hockey past Franklin Pierce

Box Score

RINDGE, N.H. – The American International College field hockey team scored twice in the second half to earn a 2-0 Northeast-10 victory at Franklin Pierce University Saturday afternoon. Junior goalie Kim Steiner (Little Falls, N.Y.) tallied 10 saves to earn the shutout in the cage for the Yellow Jackets.

AIC evened its record at 4-4 for the season, while the Ravens dropped to 3-5.

The game was scoreless until the 46th-minute when junior forward Amanda McLean (Branford, Conn.) banged home a rebound for her seventh goal of the season. Senior midfielder/back Lauren Silva (New City, N.Y.) took the initial shot, which was blocked in front of the cage.

That lead was extended to 2-0 10 minutes later when McLean fed a pass to sophomore forward Kristen Angeletti (Wallingford, Conn.) on a two-on-one break and she buried the shot for her third goal of the year.

Shots were even in the game at 17 apiece, while Franklin Pierce had an 8-6 edge in penalty corners. Sophomore goalie Brittany Nyzio (Attleboro, Mass.) had six saves in taking the loss for the Ravens.

The Yellow Jackets will next host Southern Connecticut State University Tuesday night in a 7 p.m. Northeast-10 contest at Ronald J. Abdow Field.
