Men's Basketball Posts 73-66 Win Over Franklin Pierce

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The American International College men's basketball team registered a 73-66 Northeast-10 victory over Franklin Pierce University Saturday afternoon at Butova Gymnasium. Four players scored in double-figures to for the Yellow Jackets.

AIC improved to 8-10 for the season and 6-7 in the NE-10, while the Ravens fell to 8-10 overall and 3-10 in conference play.

Franklin Pierce led the entire first half and took a 34-29 lead into the locker room at the half, but the Yellow Jackets took over in the second. AIC opened the period with an 11-2 run, which included six points from sophomore guard #Isiah Wallace# (Springfield, Mass.), to take a 40-36 lead and never trailed the rest of the way.

The Ravens were within one after sophomore forward Adedamola Abu (Mattapan, Mass.) converted a layup to make it a 59-58 contest with 6:41 on the clock, but the Yellow Jackets answered with a 6-0 burst to push their lead back to seven.

Senior forward #Aikeem Vanderhorst# (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scored 17 points and grabbed six boards for AIC. He now stands 18th on the Yellow Jackets' career scoring list with 1,193 career points, surpassing Errol Jones' total of 1,183 points from 1991-95.

Senior guard #Mike Troll# (New York, N.Y.) fell just short of a triple-double after scoring 17 points with 10 boards and eight assists. He was 6-of-10 from the field and 5-of-8 from three. Wallace also finished with 17 points and grabbed eight boards, while junior guard #Byron Richards# (Adelphia, Md.) added 10 points with six boards off the bench.

Junior guard Jeff Manchester (Gorham, Maine) scored 12 points, all in the first half, on 4-of-8 shooting from three to lead Franklin Pierce. Junior guard Kinard Dozier (Dedham, Mass.) and sophomore center John Hegarty (New Bedford, Mass.) each scored 11 points with eight boards, while freshman guard Eric Jean-Guillaume (Stamford, Conn.) netted 11 points with four assists.

The Yellow Jackets shot 41.7 percent (25-60) from the field, 46.7 percent (7-15) from three and 72.7 percent (16-22) from the free throw line, while the Ravens shot 34.3 percent (23-67) from the field, 31.3 percent (10-32) from three and 50 percent (10-20) from the line.

AIC will next travel to Saint Michael's Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
