Men's Basketball Stuns UMass Lowell, 71-51

Lowell, Mass. - The American International College men's basketball team, which is still missing two starters, pulled out a 71-51 Northeast-10 victory at UMass Lowell Saturday afternoon at Costello Gymnasium. Junior forward #Anthony Thomas# (Baltimore, Md.) scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed 12 boards to lead the Yellow Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets, who snapped a four-game losing streak with the victory, improved to 7-9 overall and 5-6 in the Northeast-10. The River Hawks fell to 11-5 overall and 8-3 in conference play.

Junior guard #Byron Richard# (Adelphia, Md.) poured in 19 points, hitting 6-of-10 threes, and pulled down six boards. Sophomore guard #Adrian Hynes-Guery# (Montreal, Que.) netted 13 points and grabbed six boards in his return to the lineup after missing the last three games due to injury, and freshman guard #Ricky Hudson# (Sewell, N.J.) also scored 13 points with eight boards.

Sophomore guard Kyle Caiola (Parma, Ohio) netted 18 points to lead UMass Lowell. Freshman guard Scott Tavares-Taylor (Boston, Mass.) added 14 points with six rebounds and two assists.

The Yellow Jackets opened the game with a 12-2 run over the first 6:02 and never looked back. AIC closed the first half with a 15-4 run to open a commanding 44-21 lead at the half and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

The River Hawks used an 11-2 run to pull back within 11, 56-45, with 5:25 to go in the second half, but AIC answered 12-2 burst of its own over the next four minutes to put the game out of reach.

The Yellow Jackets shot 43.1 percent (22-51) from the field, 38.9 percent (7-18) from beyond the arc and 80 percent (20-25) from the charity stripe, while holding UMass Lowell to 31.8 percent (21-66) shooting from the field, 15.4 percent (4-26) from three. The River Hawks were just 5-for-10 at the line._

AIC will next travel to Stonehill College Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
