Colchester, Vt. – Sophomore forward #
Amanda McLean# (Branford, Conn.) scored her first goal of the season at the 25-minute mark of the first half as the American International College field hockey team posted a 1-0 non-conference win at Saint Michael's Sunday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 1-3 with their first win of the season. The Purple Knights fell to 2-3 for the year.
McLean took a centering feed from graduate forward #
Jacki Lapointe# (Danvers, Mass.) and sent the ball past junior keeper Meghan McLaughlin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) to score what proved to be the game-winning goal.
Sophomore goalie #
Kim Steiner# (Little Falls, N.Y.) stopped all five shots on goal to earn the win in goal, four of which came in the second half. McLaughlin made two stops in taking the loss.
Saint Michael's held an 8-5 advantage in shots and both teams were awarded six penalty corners. AIC held the Purple Knights to just a single shot in the first half.
The Yellow Jackets will next open the home portion of their schedule Thursday when they host Assumption. The Northeast-10 contest will begin at 4 p.m. and marks the team's first game played at the all-new John Homer Miller Field.
