Lapointe Scores Twice, Leads Field Hockey Past Southern Connecticut

New Haven, Conn. – Senior forward #Jacki Lapointe# (Danvers, Mass.) scored both goals, including the game-winner with just 1:25 left on the clock, to lead the American International College field hockey team to a 2-1 win at Southern Connecticut State University Tuesday night in a Northeast-10 contest.

The Yellow Jackets improved to 3-6 overall and evened their conference record at 2-2, while the Owls fell to 1-8 overall and 1-1 in the NE-10.

Lapointe opened the scoring with just 50 second left in the first half with an assist from sophomore midfielder #Linsey Fernandes# (Ajax, Ont.), but that lead didn't last long as freshman midfielder Laura Dembofsky (Stamford, Conn.) tied the game 27seconds into the second half.

The game remained tied until Lapointe scored her team-leading fourth goal, this time with an assist from junior forward/midfielder #Rhonwen Peters# (Aquashicola, Pa.), with 1:25 to go in the game.

Sophomore goalie #Kim Steiner# (Little Falls, N.Y.) made three saves to pick up the win in goal, while junior goalie Lauren Zarrella (Morris, Conn.) tallied seven stops in taking the loss. AIC out shot SCSU 12-9 in the game and had a 6-3 advantage in penalty corners.

The Yellow Jackets will next host Merrimack Saturday at John Homer Miller Field. The Northeast-10 contest will get under way at noon.
