No. 8 Bentley Holds On for 4-3 Win Over Field Hockey Team

Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The eighth-ranked Bentley Falcons scored three times in the first half and held on for a 4-3 win over the American International College field hockey team Wednesday afternoon at John Homer Miller Field in a non-conference contest. Graduate forward #Jacki Lapointe# (Danvers, Mass.) scored twice for the Yellow Jackets.

Senior forward Abbie DeMusis (Guilford, Conn.) got the Falcons (5-2, 1-0 NE-10) on the board 11:18 into the game with an assist from senior midfielder Courtney Bartlett (Brunswick, Maine), who made it a 2-0 game six minutes later.

Lapointe answered just 38 seconds later off a feed from freshman forward #Imani Ferguson# (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) and then tied the game in the 23rd-minute after tipping home a ball from freshman forward/midfielder #Lisa Duckles# (Netcong, N.J.).

Bentley regained the lead for good in the 26th-minute when DeMusis and senior forward/midfielder Allison St. Jean (Lebanon, Maine) broke in on a two-on-none. They worked the give-and-go and St. Jean placed the ball just inside the left post, giving the Falcons a 3-2 lead. Sophomore midfielder Stephanie Sideris (Watertown, Mass.) then scored what proved to be the difference-maker in the 48th-minute off a rebound.

The Yellow Jackets (2-5, 1-2 NE-10) drew back within one when sophomore midfielder #Linsey Fernandes# (Ajax, Ont.) scored off a penalty corner with 4:53 left in the game. AIC had a couple chances to tie the game in the closing minutes, but were unable to draw even as Bentley held on for the win.

Senior goalie Alyssa Sliney (Brewster, Mass.) had two saves in recording the win in goal, while sophomore goalie #Kim Steiner# (Little Falls, N.Y.) had 19 saves in taking the loss. Bentley outshot the Yellow Jackets 31-7 and had a 14-4 advantage in penalty corners.

AIC will next travel to Franklin Pierce Saturday for a 1 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
