Lowell, Mass. – Third-ranked UMass Lowell scored four times in the first half on its way to a 4-2 win over the American International College field hockey team Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 contest. The River Hawks improved to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the Northeast-10, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Junior forward Lizzy Ales (Arlington, Mass.) opened the scoring when she tipped a crossing pass Junior forward Sammy Macy (Tewksbury, Mass.) in the 15th-minute and scored again just 1:11 later off a rebound to give UMass Lowell a 2-0 lead. Macy added what proved to be the difference maker 40 seconds after that and added her second goal of the game in the 26th-minute, both of which were assisted by junior midfielder Liz Day (North Andover, Mass.).
AIC battled until the end and got on the board in the 49th-minute when sophomore forward #

AIC was outshot 29-14 in the game, but played much better in the second half and was only outshot by a 15-10 margin. The Yellow Jackets had a 9-8 advantage in penalty corners.
AIC returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Bentley at 4 p.m. at John Homer Miller Field.
