Baseball Drops Twin Bill to Bentley

Springfield, Mass. – The American International College dropped a pair of Northeast-10 games to Bentley at AIC Park Saturday afternoon. The Falcons took the opener 7-3 and shut down the Yellow Jackets 7-1 in the nightcap. AIC fell to 8-33 overall and 6-23 in the NE-10, while Bentley improved to 27-21 and 18-11.

The Falcons lead 3-2 heading into the ninth, but sophomore right fielder James Roche (Arlington, Mass.) tripled, junior second baseman Charlie Pagliarulo (Medford, Mass.) was hit by a pitch, and sophomore designated hitter Chris Hardy (Warwick, R.I.) walked to load the bases. Junior Brett Damato (Commack, N.Y.) came to the plate and sent one deep to left field to give Bentley a 7-3 lead.

Freshman Dan Murphy (Garden City, N.Y.) pitched 7.2 innings and gave up two runs, one earned, for the victory. Senior #Dan Nugent# (Cambridge, Mass.) took the loss for AIC in a 6.1 inning effort. Nugent allowed just two runs on four hits and finished the season with a 2-3 record.

Senior right fielder #Jon Thorpe# (East Longmeadow, Mass.) went 2-4 with a pair of doubles, a run, and a RBI.

In game two, junior Eric Boudrow (Dedham, Mass.) pitched a complete game to win it for the Falcons. He allowed one run on just four hits and struck out six. Sophomore #Dillon Fontaine# (Amenia, N.Y.) pitched seven innings and took the loss for the Yellow Jackets after giving up six runs, five earned.

Junior catcher Mike Decoste (Chelmsford, Mass.) hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to add some more insurance to the Bentley lead.

The Yellow Jackets wrap up the 2009 season by traveling to Bentley tomorrow for a game at 1 p.m.
