Waltham, Mass. – The American International College baseball team concluded its 2009 season with a 7-2 Northeast-10 defeat to Bentley Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets completed the season with an overall record of 8-34 and 6-24 in the NE-10, while the Falcons ended the regular season at 28-21 overall and 19-11 in the conference.
Senior pitcher Jarrod Marchesi (Peabody, Mass.) earned the victory in a six innings relief effort as he gave up just one run and struck out seven. Classmate Brett Fistes (South Deerfield, Mass.) pitched the first three innings and allowed one run off three hits. Sophomore #Sean Stevenson# (Holyoke, Mass.) started for AIC and took the loss after giving up six runs on eight hits in three innings.
The Yellow Jackets pushed a run across in the top of the first on a triple by junior outfielder #Dan Bassani# (Naples, Fla.). The Falcons answered with three runs in the bottom half after sophomore right fielder James Roche (Arlington, Mass.) walked with the bases loaded and junior second baseman Charlie Pagliarulo (Medford, Mass.) drove in two more with a single to center.
Bassani finished the game 3-4 and knocked in both runs for AIC. Senior first baseman #Kevin Farrell# (Wilbraham, Mass.) and sophomore designated hitter #Dillon Fontaine# (Amenia, N.Y.) both went 2-4 at the dish with a run scored and a stolen base.
Pagliarulo provided most of the offense for Bentley as he went 2-3 with four RBI and a run scored. Junior first baseman Garrett Stenhouse (Warwick, R.I.) was 2-5 and scored a pair of runs.
