Springfield, Mass. – The American International College baseball team was worked for 30 hits in a Northeast-10 doubleheader swept by Southern Connecticut State at AIC Park Saturday afternoon. The Owls took the opener 11-2 and earned a 10-3 victory in game two. The Yellow jackets dropped to 6-24 overall and 4-14 in the NE-10, while SCSU improved to 15-17 and 10-8.
Freshman pitcher Ryan Yerina (Trumbull, Conn.) went the distance in game one for the Owls and allowed just two runs, one earned, and struck out eight to earn his third win of the season. Senior #
Dan Nugent# (Cambridge, Mass.) lasted just four innings for AIC and gave up four runs, three earned, in the loss.
In game two, freshman Chris Zbin (Colchester, Conn.) earned his third win of the season in just five innings pitched, but allowed just one unearned run and had seven Ks. Sophomore #
Zach Bunszell# (Medford, Mass.) pitched five innings and allowed five runs, four earned, in the loss.
At the plate, freshman shortstop Sam Greenberg (Guilford, Conn.) went 5-9 with five runs scored, in the two games for the Owls, and stole two bases. Senior infielder Kevin Browerman (West Haven, Conn.) was a combined 5-7 with four runs scored and two batted in.
