Men's Basketball Pulls Out Last Second Victory Over Assumption, 74-73

Springfield, Mass. – Freshman guard #Adrian Hynes-Guery# (Montreal, Que.) took the ball the length of the court to score the game-winning bucket with 0.3 seconds remaining to give American International College a 74-73 victory over Northeast-10 opponent Assumption at Butova Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. With the win the Yellow Jackets improved to 14-9 overall and 10-8 in the NE-10. Assumption drops to 15-7 overall and 12-5 in the conference.

Junior guard Courtland Bluford (Fort Washington, Md.) scored a team-high 17 points off the bench for Assumption. He hit a pair of free throws with 1:49 left to play to cut the AIC lead to one. Bluford then stole the ball and took it to the hoop for a dunk giving Assumption a 73-72 lead. With seven seconds remaining he missed a layup that was pulled down by AIC senior forward #Lucius Millinder# (Belleville, N.J.). Millinder hit Hynes-Guery with an outlet pass who took the ball to the rim for the game-winning score.

Freshman guard #Isiah Wallace# (Springfield, Mass.) led the way for AIC with a game-high 30 points to go with six rebounds. Hynes-Guery contributed seven points, five rebounds, and a team-best four assists. Junior forward #Aikeem Vanderhorst# (Bay Shore, N.Y.) added 10 points and eight boards. Millinder and sophomore guard #Sesoo Ikpah# (Williamstown, N.J.) both scored in double digits as Millinder put up 10 and Ikpah 13.

Senior forward Patrick Shea (Salem, Mass.) added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Greyhounds. Sophomore forward Savoy Fraine (Granada Hills, Calif.) chipped in 10 points.

AIC trailed Assumption 36-30 at the half and fell behind by as many as nine points in the second half. In the second half the Greyhounds shot 52 percent (13-25), but the Yellow Jackets shot an efficient 61.5 percent (16-26) to overcome the deficit and take the victory.

The Yellow Jackets return to action when they play at Southern New Hampshire next Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
