Men's Basketball Stings Holy Family, 97-78

Philadelphia, Pa. - The American International College men's Basketball team registered its second win in as many days after posting a 97-78 victory at Holy Family University Sunday afternoon in a non-conference contest, improving its record to 6-4 for the season. Senior forward #Aikeem Vanderhorst# (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scored 13 points to move into 22nd-place on the Yellow Jackets' career scoring list.

Vanderhost, who also contributed 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals against the Tigers (0-8), now has 1,086 career points and just passes Craig Ware, who scored 1,085 points from 1981-85, on the career scoring list. He needs just five points to pass Greg Hill (1,091; 1068-70) and is 13 shy of tying Jorge Garcia (1,099; 1997-2001 for 20th.

Junior forward #Allen Aragbaye# (Corona, Calif.) scored a team-high 22 points with eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Sophomore forward #Isiah Wallace# (Springfield, Mass.) stuffed the stat sheet with 21 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, three steals and one blocked shot.

Junior forward #Byron Richards# (Adelphia, Md.) added 12 points, three steals and two boards off the bench. Sophomore guard #Adrian Hynes-Guery# (Montreal, Que.) chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds and five assists, and senior guard #Mike Troll# (New York, N.Y.) netted six points with eight assists.

Sophomore guard Khalil Mumford (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored a game-high 26 points with seven assists and three steals to lead Holy Family. Sophomore forward Justin Swidowski (Cinnaminson, N.J.) added 22 points and eight boards, while junior forward Rickie Crews (Westville, N.J.) netted 15 points with seven boards, five blocked shots and four assists.

The Tigers held an early 15-9 lead after a Swidowski layup 5:16 into the game before AIC went on a 24-6 run that was capped by a Troll three-pointer with 6:37 left in the opening period. The Yellow Jackets never trailed the rest of the way, taking a 44-35 lead into the locker room at the half and leading by as many as 19 in the second half.

AIC was up 10 after a three from Aragbaye gave the Yellow Jackets a 52-42 lead 3:13 into the second half, but the Tigers came back with a 16-6 run that was capped by a Mumford layup to tie the game at 58 7:19 into the second period.

AIC immediately went on an 11-4 run that included eight straight points from Aragbaye to regain the lead for good and later used a 17-1 run that was capped by a three from Richards to blow the game open and give the Yellow Jackets a commanding 86-67 advantage with 5:47 to go in the game.

AIC shot 45.7 percent (32-70) from the field, 53.3 percent (16-30) from three-point range and 94.4 percent (17-18) from the free throw line, while Holy Family shot 50.8 percent (32-63) from the field, 36.4 percent (8-22) from beyond the arc and 42.9 percent (6-14) from the line.

The Yellow Jackets will next travel to Bloomfield College December 22 for a 6 p.m. non-conference contest.
