Men's Basketball Wins Third Straight, Beats No. 20 Le Moyne 72-68

Syracuse, N.Y. – The American International College men's basketball team saw four players score in double-figures as the Yellow Jackets recorded a 72-68 Northeast-10 victory at No. 20 Le Moyne College Tuesday Night. Sophomore forward #Isiah Wallace# (Springfield, Mass.) scored a game-high 20 points while grabbing 12 boards to lead the Yellow Jackets to their third consecutive win.

AIC improved to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in the Northeast-10, while the Dolphins dropped to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Junior forwards #Allen Aragbaye# (Corona, Calif.) and #Anthony Thomas# (Baltimore, Md.) added 15 points each for the Yellow Jackets. Thomas filled the stat sheet with eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocked shots, while Aragbaye grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists.

Senior forward #Aikeem Vanderhorst# (Bay Shore, N.Y.) netted 14 points to go with five boards. He made the opening basket of the game and in doing so became the 28th 1,000-point scorer in program history. Vanderhorst entered the game with 999 career points.

Le Moyne was led by sophomore guard Christopher Johnson (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), who tallied 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and was 3-for-6 from downtown. Junior forward Kevin Roth (Lake View, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards, as did senior forward Laurence Ekperigin (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) who scored 10 points with a game-high 14 rebounds.

AIC opened the game with a 12-2 run over the first 4:15 of the contest, but the Dolphins answered with a 12-2 run of their own to tie the game at 14 at the 10:15 mark of the first half. The Yellow Jackets pulled ahead by six, 30-24, on a three from senior guard #Mike Troll# (New York, N.Y.) with 4:47 left in the opening period, but Roth and Johnson scored the final two baskets of the first half to pull Le Moyne within one at the half, 31-30.

Aragbaye gave AIC a 41-38 lead after he drained a three six minutes into the second half, but that lead didn't last long as the Dolphins immediately went on a 13-4 run to open their biggest lead of the game at 51-45 with 9:37 to go in the contest. The Yellow Jackets answered with a 19-4 run over the next 6:16 that was capped by a pair of Thomas free throw to take a 64-55 lead with 3:21 to go.

Le Moyne was back within four, 70-66, with 49 seconds to go, but was forced to send AIC to the line and turned the ball over twice in the last five seconds of the game as the Yellow Jackets held on for the win.

The Yellow Jackets shot 44.1 percent from the field (26-59) and 37.9 percent (11-29) from beyond the arc, while the Dolphins shot 49.1 percent (27-55) from the field and 23.5 percent (4-17) from downtown. Le Moyne was 15-of-22 from the free throw line, while AIC was just 9-for-20 at the line.

The Yellow Jackets return to action Sunday when they host Southern Connecticut State University in a Northeast-10 contest. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. at Butova Gymnasium.
