Yellow Jackets Drop Non-Conference Contest with No. 5 UMass Lowell, 5-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College field hockey team lost Wednesday night 5-1 against No. 5 UMass Lowell. With the loss the Yellow Jackets fall to 3-10 this season, while the win improves the River Hawks to 11-2 overall.

Graduate student #Jacki Lapointe# (Danvers, Mass.) put AIC out to an early 1-0 lead when she found the back of the net just 54-seconds into the game with an assist from junior Rhonwen Peters (Aquashicola, Pa.).

Junior Sammy Macy (Tewksbury, Mass.) tallied three straight goals to give UMass Lowell a 3-1 lead. Classmates Liz Day (North Andover, Mass.) and Katie Enaire (Amesbury, Mass.) each netted a goal for the River Hawks in the win.

Sophomore #Kim Steiner# (Little Falls, N.Y.) stopped 11 shots for the Yellow Jackets, while her counterpart, junior Amy Carbon (Bellingham, Mass.) made seven saves in earning the victory.

Next up, AIC heads to Worcester, Mass. to take on the Assumption Greyhounds in a non-conference contest on Sunday at 12 p.m. The Yellow Jackets return home next Thursday, as they take on the Adelphi Panthers at 7 p.m.
