Yellow Jackets Pull Off Overtime Thriller over Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore #Amanda McLean# (Branford, Conn.) buried a shot in overtime with an assist from graduate student #Jacki Lapointe# (Danvers, Mass.) to propel the American International College field hockey team over Assumption, 3-2. With the win the Yellow Jackets improve to 4-10 this season, while the loss drops the Greyhounds to 3-11. McLean scored twice in the win.

After Assumption scored twice in the first half for a 2-0 lead, AIC got on the board in the second half when McLean found the back of the net in the 47th-minute. The Yellow Jackets tied the score just 12-minutes later, when sophomore #Linsey Fernandes# (Ajax, Ont.) netted a goal off of a corner with an assist from junior #Rhonwen Peters# (Aquashicola, Pa.).

McLean ended the game, eight-minutes into overtime, when she scored on a two-on-one breakaway with an assist from Lapointe.

Sophomore #Kim Steiner# (Little Falls, N.Y.) stopped four shots to earn the victory, while junior Danielle Luongo (Northboro, Mass.) made five saves in the loss.

AIC outshot the Greyhounds 16-12 on the day.

Next up, the Yellow Jackets host Adelphi in a conference match-up on Thursday at 7 p.m.
