Men's Basketball Tops Southern New Hampshire, 62-59

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The American International College men's basketball team improved to 11-7 overall and 7-6 in the Northeast-10 after defeating Southern New Hampshire University, 62-59, Tuesday Night at Butova Gymnasium. Freshman guard #Isiah Wallace# (Springfield, Mass.) registered a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Yellow Jackets.

AIC got 20 points and seven boards from senior forward #Lucius Millinder# (Belleville N.J.) and junior forward #Aikeem Vanderhorst# (Bay Shore, N.Y.) added 12 points, shooting 8 of 10 from the charity stripe, and seven boards.

Sophomore guard/forward Tory Stapleton (Rahway, N.J.) and Senior guard Troy Bowen (Nashua, N.H.) each tallied 11 points and four rebounds to lead the Penmen (8-9, 4-8 NE-10). Junior guard/forward Stephen Wood (South Jamaica Queens, N.Y.) added 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Neither team led by more that four in the second of what proved to be a tightly contested game. Wallace gave AIC the lead for good after making a layup as he was fouled and sinking his free throw, giving the Yellow Jackets a 50-49 lead with 3:09 left in the game. AIC's lead was three, 60-57, when junior forward Ryan Leak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) stuffed a 3-point try by Bowen with 21 seconds on the clock and the Penmen were forced to foul from there.

AIC returns to action Friday when it hosts Saint Anselm College at 7 p.m. in a Northeast-10 contest.
