Field Hockey Falls to Franklin Pierce 2-1

Holyoke, Mass. – The American international College field hockey team lost Thursday night to Franklin Pierce, 2-1. With the loss the Yellow Jackets record falls to 1-7 on the season and 1-6 in the Northeast-10 conference, while the win lifts the Ravens overall record to 3-4 and 3-3 in the NE-10. Freshman #Amanda McLean# (Branford, Conn.) had the only goal for AIC with the assist from sophomore #Rhonwen Peters# (Aquashicola, Pa.).

Franklin Pierce entered the half with a 1-0 lead after Emily Morrissey (Hubbardston, Mass.) scored with the assist from junior Ashley Abernethey (Bellingham, Mass.). Abernethey put the Ravens on top 2-0 when she scored less then two minutes into the second half. McLean made the game 2-1, but the Yellow Jackets could not capitalize on their late chances.

Freshman #Kim Steiner# (Redford, N.Y.) made 10 saves in the loss for AIC, while classmate Kristin Tormollan (Waterville, Maine) had six stops to get the win for Franklin Pierce.

The Ravens outshot the Yellow Jackets 21-9 and 16-4 in the second half, and also had a 7-4 advantage in penalty cornners.

Next up, AIC travels to Merrimack on Saturday for an NE-10 contest at 11 a.m.
