Men's Basketball Notches 70-58 Victory Over Saint Michael's

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Freshman guard #Isiah Wallace# (Springfield, Mass.) recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, both game-highs, as the American International College men's basketball team handed Saint Michael's it's first loss of the season, 70-58, Saturday afternoon at Butova Gymnasium. Both teams records now stand at 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Northeast-10.

Junior forward #Aikeem Vanderhorst# (Bay Shore, N.Y.) netted a season-high 17 points with six rebounds, three steals and two assists and senior forward #Lucius Millinder# (Belleville, N.Y.) added 10 points with seven boards. Junior guard #Mike Troll# (New York, N.Y.) scored 14 points off the bench after hitting each of his four shots from the floor, all 3-pointers, and making both of his free throw attempts.

The Purple Knights also had four players score in double figures, led by a 13-point, 10 rebound effort from freshman forward Tyler Schilling (Excelsior, Minn.) He made four of five attempts from the floor and five of six free throws while collecting three assists and three steals. Freshman guard Alex Berthiaume (Springfield, Mass.) netted 11 points off the bench and senior forward Jon Zylstra (Uxbridge, Mass.) and sophomore guard Nate Birr (Burnsville, Minn.) added 10 points each.

AIC never trailed in the game as it opened the contest on a 15-3 run over the first 7:37 and led by 17, 30-13, with 1:03 left in the first half. Saint Michael's scored the final five points of the period to pull within 12, 30-18 at intermission. The Yellow Jackets led by 10 or more points for most of the second half and went three of four free throws in the final minute to secure the win.

AIC won despite being out shot in the game. Saint Michael's shot 51.1 percent (24-47) from the floor to the Yellow Jackets 42.3 percent (22-52) performance. AIC out-rebounded the Purple Knights 32-27, including 12 offensive boards that led to 17 second chance points. Saint Michael's had five offensive rebounds the resulted in just six second chance points. AIC also turned 20 Purple Knight turnovers into 22 points.
