No. 24 Football Hosts Second-Place Pace Saturday

SETTING THE SCENE: The American International College football team looks to extend its winning streak to a school-record 13 games and improve to 7-0 on the season when it hosts Pace University at John Homer Miller Field.

ABOUT AIC: The Yellow Jackets enter today's contest with an overall record of 6-0 and are 4-0 in the Northeast-10 after topping Stonehill, 24-10, last Saturday. Sophomore quarterback Rob Parent has completed 93-of-143 (65.0 pct.) passes this season for 1,358 yards and 19 touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Travis Poole leads the team with 37 catches, 717 yards and 11 TDs and junior wide receiver Kertis Hussey ranks second with 28 catches for 427 yards eight touchdowns. Freshman running back Mike Mayo has rushed for 521 yards and four touchdowns since making his debut against Husson three games ago. Junior linebacker Rich Reichert leads the team with 43 tackles (17 solo, 26 assists) and is second with seven tackles for loss. Classmate Nick Abraham ranks second on the team with 31 tackles is third on the team with 6.5 tackles for loss. Senior place kicker Marek Przybylek has converted 5-of-6 field goals and has converted 26-of-27 PATs on the season.

AIC'S LAST TIME OUT: AIC held Stonehill to just 173 yards of total offense as it won its school-record 12th consecutive game, 24-10. Parent completed 17-of-25 passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns for AIC. Poole had five catches for 70 yards and scored two touchdowns and Mayo carried the ball 22 times for 131 yards and one score. The Yellow Jackets took the lead for good with 6:56 remaining in the first quarter when Parent found Poole on a 12-yard scoring play and the PAT gave AIC a 7-0 lead. AIC led 10-3 at the half after Przyblyek booted a 42-yard field goal and Mayo opened the second half scoring with a one-yard touchdown run midway though the third quarter. Poole later found the endzone on a 14-yard scoring reception five minutes into the fourth quarter, giving AIC a commanding 24-3 lead. AIC's defense put in another stellar effort as it held Stonehill to just 173 yards of total offense and sacked Parsons 10 times in the game for a total loss of 86 yards. Senior defensive lineman Jean Simeon recorded a team-best 13 tackles, seven solo, with game-highs of six tackles for loss and three and a half sacks. Reichert registered 11 tackles with one sack and sophomore linebacker George Hudson had nine tackles and two tackles for loss. Mercer had seven tackles, two tackles for loss, one and a half sacks and one fumble recovery.

ABOUT PACE: The Setters enter today's contest with a record of 4-2 overall and are 3-1 in the NE-10 after topping Assumption, 21-14, and are currently tied for second-place in the NE-10 with Southern Connecticut. It was Pace's second victory over the Greyhounds this season. Junior quarterback Ray Gregg has completed 107-of-178 passes for 1,207 yards and 10 touchdowns. Nathaniel Ford is the team's leading rusher, having carried the ball 75 times for 384 yards and three scores. Eric Ortega is the Setters' leading receiver with 28 catches for 335 yards and four TDs. Pat Olchovy is second on the team with 19 receptions for 248 yards and two scores. Greg Brain leads the team, defensively, with 47 tackles, including a team-best 36 solo tackles, and has two interceptions. Brian Schuster ranks second on the team with 43 and two sacks. place kicker Ali Mourtada has made just 3-of-8 field goal attempts and is 16-of-18 in PATs.

ON A ROLL: The win over Saint Anselm was AIC's school-record 12th in a row, a streak that began with a 44-21 win over Merrimack on October 6, 2007. The Yellow Jackets also tied the school record for consecutive home victories after defeating Stonehill 24-10, marking the 13th consecutive win at John Homer Miller Field. This current streak dates back to November 5, 2005 when AIC recorded a 51-28 win over Saint Anselm and ties the run of 13 straight wins put together over the 1999-2002 seasons. A win today would also mark the second-most wins to open a season, seven, in program history. The 1975 squad opened the year with a school-record eight consecutive victories.

AIC CRACKS TOP-25: The Yellow Jackets are making their first-ever appearance in the top-25 of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Coaches' Poll since the AFCA began producing a Division II coaches' poll in 2000. AIC, which had been receiving votes each of the past two weeks, is ranked 24th in the poll released October 14. The Yellow Jackets are the only NE-10 team ranked or receiving votes in this week's poll.

WEEKLY HONORS: Simeon was named the Northeast-10 and ECAC Division II Defensive Player of the Week after recording a team-best 13 tackles, seven solo, with game-highs of six tackles for loss and three and a half sacks against Stonehill. Parent and Mayo were named to the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll for their performances against the Skyhawks.
