Field Hockey Wins on Senior Day, Beating Adelphi 2-0

Chicopee, Mass. – In her final home game for the Yellow Jackets senior #Jacki Lapointe# (Danvers, Mass.) scored what would prove to be the game winning goal to propel the American International College field hockey team to a 2-0 victory over Adelphi on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Yellow Jackets improve to 5-13 on the season, while the loss drops the Panthers record to 2-7 on the year.

Lapointe put AIC up 1-0, when she scored just 3:42 into the first half. Freshman #Linsey Fernandes# (Ajax, Ont.) added some insurance scoring the Yellow Jackets second goal, at 33:58 in the first half to give AIC the 2-0 win.

Freshman goaltender #Kim Steiner# (Redford, N.Y.) needed just one save to tally the shutout for the Yellow Jackets, while her counterpart, classmate Jaqueline Grant (Wading River, N.Y.) made 10 saves for Adelphi in the loss.

AIC outshot the Panthers 19-5 and 9-1 in the first half. The Yellow Jackets also had a 9-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Next up, AIC travels to Southern Connecticut for an NE-10 match-up on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
