Field Hockey Stings Saint Anselm in Overtime, 4-3

Manchester, N.H. – The American International College field hockey team improved to 4-11 on the season and 4-9 in the Northeast-10 after recording a 4-3 overtime victory at Saint Anselm Saturday afternoon. Freshman #Amanda McLean# (Branford, Conn.) scored 7:34 into the extra frame to give the Yellow Jackets, who trailed three times in the contest, their second overtime win in as many games.

The Hawks (5-8, 5-8 NE-10) broke a 2-2 tie on an unassisted goal from senior Sam Rowe (Chelmsford, Mass.) in the 58th minute, but senior #Stephanie Laskey# (Erving, Mass.) answered with just 55 seconds left in regulation to send the match into overtime. McLean assisted on Laskey's goal, giving her three points in the game.

Rowe opened the scoring 4:15 into the game and senior #Jacki Lapointe# (Danvers, Mass.) tied the game with her team-leading fifth goal of the season to send the teams into the half tied at 1-1. Saint Anselm regained the lead just 2:15 into the second half on a goal from sophomore Ellen O'Neil (Willington, Conn.) and freshman #Linsey Fernandes# (Ajax, Ont.) tied the game in the 43rd minutes off a feed from classmate #Jessica Hall# (Higganum, Conn.).

Freshman #Kim Steiner# (Redford, N.Y.) recorded 19 saves in the game, including three in OT, to record the win in goal for AIC, while junior Riley Haddock (Falmouth, Mass.) had four stops for the Hawks. Saint Anselm out shot the Yellow Jackets 35-11 in the game and held a 31-7 shot advantage in regulation. The Hawks also held a 14-8 edge in penalty corners.

AIC will next travel to Stonehill Tuesday for a 4 p.n. Northeast-10 contest.
